Kunle Afolayan was born to the family of Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan on September 30, 1974. His father, Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan, was a well-known theatre and movie director and producer in Nollywood. He was better known by the name Ade-Love.

Kunle’s brothers and sisters are all actors: Tayo Afolayan, Kunle Afolayan, Moji Afolayan, Gabriel Afolayan, and Aremu Afolayan. He is also linked to the well-known Nollywood actor Toyin Afolayan.

Kunle was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, but he is from Igbomina, which is in the state of Kwara. After he finished elementary and secondary school, he went on to college. After that, he got a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He also has a certificate in making digital movies from the New York Film Academy.

Kunle Afolayan started as a part-time actor and banker in the entertainment business before he decided to do it full-time. Since he started making movies in Nigeria in 2005, Afolayan has made several very successful movies, such as “Phone Swap” and “The Figurine: Araromire,” which starred Wale Ojo, Joke Silva, Nse Ikpe Etim, and other well-known actors.

“The Figurine: Araromire” won five major awards from the African Film Academy at the first Nollywood Week in Paris, while “Phone Swap” won the Public Choice Award.

In 2014, his movie “October 1” was a big hit at the movies. It was the second best-selling Nigerian movie in Nigerian theatres after “Half of a Yellow Sun” when it came out.

Kunle Afolayan married Tolu in 2007, and they now have four children. Tolu went to the Lagos Business School and got a degree there. She is now a successful businesswoman. Reports say that the two broke up in 2019 because they couldn’t work out their differences. Kunle Afolayan thinks of himself as someone who thinks for himself.

Some of his movies are “October 1,” “The Figurine,” “Saro,” “Phone Swap,” “The CEO,” and “The Bridge.”

Kunle Afolayan has won several awards and prizes since 2005, such as the Festival Prize for Outstanding Film Directing at the Abuja International Film Festival (2012). The Abuja International Film Festival gave the Golden Jury Award for the best film (2012). The Durban International Film Festival gave an award for the best movie (2019). Nigeria’s 2015 Actor of the Year. The Afro-Heritage Broadcasting and Entertainment Awards (AHBEA) gave her the Icon in the African Entertainment Industry Award (2016).

The 2013 Nollywood Movie Award for Best Director went to him. The 2010 Africa Movie Academy Award went to the best director Kunle Afolayan. He was also nominated for The 2015 Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Director, Award for Entertainment, The 2017 City People Movie Award for Movie Director of the Year (English), and The 2017 City People Movie Award for Best Movie Producer of the Year (English).



Kunle Afolayan is a Nigerian entertainer who is one of the richest people in the country. He is the owner and CEO of Golden Effects Pictures, which makes movies, edits movies, rents movie equipment, and gives advice about movies.
